How acne scars are formed

Acne is a medical condition that mainly affects the skin. It results from the blockage of pores on the skin’s surface.  This happens when bacteria infect gland secretions in the skin or if there is accumulation of dead tissues in the skin pores. The condition is worsened when the immune system tries to fight off the bacterial infection by use of white blood cells.

There are various options available for you to get rid of acne scars. Some of the procedures can be expensive but they are known to effectively get rid of acne scars. A person can choose to combine some of the procedures to get better results.

6 Tips On How to Get Rid Of Acne Scars

1- Laser resurfacing method
This procedure is also called lasabrasion. In this treatment procedure, laser is used to vaporize certain layers of the skin. The amount of energy contained by the laser is carefully controlled so that the laser can penetrate up to a specific layer of the skin. This procedure can be used on the face area or other areas of the body that are affected by acne scars.

Laser resurfacing can be categorized into ablative and non-ablative methods. These methods are non invasive, therefore the period of recovery is significantly decreased. For best results one usually has to undergo the laser treatment a number of times.

2- Using the punch excision method
This is one of the procedures that are considered as an effective way of dealing with the ice pick kind of acne scars. A small type of punch tool is used in this procedure. The punch tool has a circular shaped cutter which is used in cutting scars away from the skin’s surface. When the acne scar has been successfully cut out, the area is sutured properly for healing process to begin. Although a scar is left after undergoing this procedure, it is less conspicuous than the scar that was there before.

This procedure can be combined with another treatment like laser resurfacing to get rid of any scar that may have been left after undergoing punch excision.

3- Use of Dermaplaning
This acne scar removal procedure incorporates the use of a special instrument known as a dermatome. The instrument resembles an electric razor. The dermatome uses an oscillating blade to finely slice skin layers at the scarred area. This is done until the acne scarred area is even with the normal skin level.

4- Use of Dermabrasion
Dermabrasion involves scrapping the upper layers of the skin using a special hand held device. The device is motorized and is attached to another apparatus that has a rough surface or wiry brush. The rough surface works similarly how a sand paper works. Thus the acne scar is sanded down to the same level as the surrounding skin.
Using punch excision together with grafting

This procedure is completely similar to punch excision; the difference comes in how the wound that is left behind after the excision procedure is dealt with.  Instead of suturing the wound, a skin graft from another part of the body is used to fill the wound. This procedure can also be combined with laser treatment to effectively get rid of acne scars.

5- Subcision procedure
The subcision procedure is characterized by cutting of connective tissues found at the scarred area. This leads to an accumulation of blood at the scarred area; this accumulation of blood causes the scarred area to be raised to the normal skin level. This is a good way to get rid of pitted acne scars. Thereafter, a chemical peel can be used to flatten the raised area and give a better appearance.

6- Chemical peeling method
An article on how to get rid of acne scars is never complete if chemical peeling is not mentioned. In this method a special type of chemical compound is applied on the surface of the scarred area. The surface of the scarred area will be exfoliated by the chemical compound. The other skin layers near the exfoliated surface will be stimulated to produce new skin cells which will aid in giving the area a better appearance.

The two main chemical compounds (also known as chemical peels) used in this procedure are salicylic and glycolic. This method is most effective for dealing with acne scarring that has affected upper layers of the skin.

Other Good Alternatives to Get Rid Of Acne Scars

Apart from the above procedures, there are other good alternatives to combat acne scars. One of such alternatives methods for example is making sure that your diet is full of essential nutrients and minerals that promote healthy skin growth. This will stimulate and encourage the production of new skin cells which replace scar tissue in time. This might take a considerable longer period of time but it is also an effective and natural way of treating acne scars. – In fact, natural ways/techniques to get rid of scars are becoming really popular, and more and more people are now using them.
